It all began with Thomas Edison - 1877

Thomas Edison Invents the Phonograph - In 1877, while working on other inventions, Thomas Edison stumbled upon a method to reproduce sound, leading to the creation of the phonograph.
By using a piece of tin-foil wrapped around a cylinder, Edison could capture and playback sound, marking the first instance of recorded and reproduced sounds.

Thomas was asked in an interview with Scientific American to comment on the possibility of using his inventions to communicate with spirits. He replied that if the spirits were only capable of subtle influences, a sensitive recording device would provide a better chance of spirit communication than the table tipping and ouija boards mediums employed at the time.
Intriguingly, Edison experimented with playing sounds backwards, noting the unique and novel effects this produced as well as possible messages from “spirit”.
Attila von Szalay began experimenting with recording voices from the dead using phonographs, inspired by the notion of capturing otherworldly communications.

As the years and technology evolve we begin to understand that the term spirit has many meanings and ways of communicating.
